Charge Mapping

Experience has shown that having a clean and accurate CDM does not always translate into the correct charges being generated 100% of the time. Charges are captured in a variety of different ways – through order entry, upon documentation, via charge tickets, etc. With so many moving pieces, coupled with frequent changes to information systems and processes, it is easy for errors to occur along the way.

Is every charge that is being generated at the point of charge entry appropriately mapped to the correct item in the CDM?

IRI consultants perform a charge mapping analysis by cross referencing all charges as they are represented at the point of charge capture (order entry dictionaries, documentation screens, charge tickets, etc.) to the actual CDM charge items which they are linked to. The purpose of this analysis is to validate that every charge being captured in clinical areas is appropriately represented by the correct charge item in the CDM.

A written report is presented which identifies the following:

  • Items which do not have an appropriate 1:1 match between various points of charge entry and the CDM. Example: Order entry item described as chest x-ray 4 views is mapped to charge in CDM for chest x-ray 2 views
  • Items which are present in the CDM but missing from point(s) of charge entry
  • Items which are present in charge entry, but missing from the CDM

Charge mapping may be provided as a stand-alone service, or as an added component of a Charge Master Review. Please contact us for more information.
